Description
There are some noteworthy references to the other X movies, such as the scene where Maxine lights her cigarette on Theda Bera's star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Given that Pearl was raised during the height of the popularity of silent film stars, this is a reference to the alligator within her that goes by the name Theda on Flixtor Movies. Her understated role in the movie is also significant because, at the time, she was viewed as a scandalous sex symbol of the brand-new cinema media. Additional ties to non-X trilogy films date back to John Hughes once again. In Maxxxine's climactic sequence, the song "Shellshock" by New Order plays over her red carpet arrival. Hughes also wrote the screenplay for Pretty.
